VocALign Mac Torrent is the latest version of the most advanced and incredibly tight vocal arrangements software for Mac OS X. Replacing the established VocAlign Project 3, it incorporates many new features, most notably SmartAlign: a clever time-saving tool that can analyse vocal recordings to detect which sections would make a good match. This is potentially invaluable in situations where, for example, timing needs to be matched across takes that have different start and end points. VocAlign Project 5 also introduces a variable Tightness control, allowing you to set the balance between super-accurate timing at one end of the scale and a more relaxed, natural feel at the other. The plug-in window is now fully resizable and there are numerous other enhancements including a better waveform display and alignment presets. VocAlign Project 5 is available now for Mac OS and Windows, and is a free upgrade to anyone who registered VocAlign Project 3 after March 16th this year. Buy before October 25 and you can get it at the special introductory price of £87.60 including VAT (US: $99). Vocalign Project 3 costs £228 including VAT and can be downloaded from the Synchro Arts on-line shop, or purchased from dealers. Also new with version three is iLok authorisation, which lets users carry their Vocalign Project license around on a little blue dongle, and therefore from studio to studio. Interestingly, the Logic-compatible version uses the Audio Units protocol to work within Apple’s DAW software, but other Audio Units-compatible DAWs are not currently supported. Its main feature is compatibility with Logic 8, and both Pro Tools and Logic versions come as part of the same license, meaning users can switch between DAWs and still get full access to Vocalign’s functionality. The latest news from Synchro Arts is that version three of Vocalign Project has been released. Originally developed for film editors, for matching the timing of replacement dialogue, Vocalign was soon being used by sound engineers to line-up backing vocal takes, dodgy drum overdubs and the like.

It works by analysing peaks and troughs in an audio source, creating a template, then applying the timing nuances of the guide audio to a second, replacement, file.
